Kia ora Tim. Your ideology that education is a private good, or commodity, to be sold to the highest bidder is at odds with many in the education sector that believe education is a common good. As a common good it is the state's role, through our tax payer dollars, to ensure all ākonga have access to education. In this view of education as a common good, ultimately the benefits of education will accrue to society. I encourage you to trace the achievement statistics back further and include data from before the changes implemented in the 1980s that brought in neoliberal ideology in the form of business logic into education. Parents have choice now, including private schools and homeschooling https://parents.education.govt.nz/primary-school/schooling-in-nz/different-types-of-primary-and-intermediate-schools/
Thanks for providing evidence as to why we need charter schools. Parents and their children need to be able to opt out of the increasingly ideologically captured State school system run by ideologues who of course prefer complete control over the indoctrination of our children. You know, anyone who still thinks our country is called New Zealand (oh that's right it is). The references to Te Tiriti in this article provide all the evidence we need. Many people do not agree with the interpretation now being given by some to what was a simple document, signed in a place and time very different from today's racially mixed world (you know, inhabited by people like me with a decent chunk of both Maori and European ancestry). The fact that people like the Professor, no doubt, believe that this document is "sacred" is enough to send the alarm bells ringing. And of course no Union wants any competitive tension in the system. Surely the declining performance of our students over the years is reason enough to open up the system to competition and diverse approaches? Oh that's right, the leftists only promote diversity if it conforms with the arbitrary categories defined by identity politics. Different ways of thinking? Well that's only allowed if it based on primitive Maori cultural thinking. People like the Professor have had control of the education system for long enough. It's time for a different approach
Concerning your questioning of my use of "primitive" well I raise this because, contrary to your assertion, I am not ignorant, but rather well informed. I'm familiar with the liberal enlightenment for example and the great strides made by humanity in terms of knowledge and understanding as a result. Contrast that with Matauranga Māori which involves wide knowledge from observation of nature, including flora and fauna, a phenomenological understanding of ecosystems, local geology and geography, the weather and celestial navigation. However, without written language, metal smelting, the wheel, mathematics, all of the physics, chemistry and biology, and advances of modern science, in technological terms matauranga Māori corresponds to knowledge in other societies predating 3000 BC. Knowledge that includes elements of myth, vitalism and animism. So as I said, primitive.
Lol ad hominin is all you lot ever have because there is no substance to your worldview - its all about the feels. We can thank the education system you've designed and supported for creating a bunch of can't think, can't debate human bots.
Oh come on Lorna try and show a bit of class and originality 😄. Your team mate manages ignorance and all you can come up with is that I'm uneducated (kind of the same comment). Meanwhile 4 of the groupies approve of the comment like there is something about it that is either clever or informative. Your response is textbook by Post Modernists to any kind of resistance to your cherished world view. Why on earth are you unable to offer anything intelligent? Don't be a victim of Dunning Kruger. Meanwhile suggest you proof read your posts - that's what educated people do. Have a lovely weekend
I guess that's you giving me advice there Lorna 😉 As a Maori I believe I'm perfectly entitled to critique my own culture free from the judgment of white cult following liberals like yourself. Nga mihi
I dont know your story Tim. I dont know if you are or aren't. If you are then I presume youre of the ilk of Peters and Reti, McKee and Chour. You have my sympathies.
Why would I need your sympathy Lorna? Because I am Maori and successful? Because I live a life unconstrained by dogma? The idea, implicit in your comment - that all "real" Maori think the same way - is both condensing and ignorant. I am free to think for myself. My racial make up doesn't condemn me to adopt a world view dictated to me by white people like you or lunatic fringes such as those infesting Te Pati Maori. Ask yourself why they only got 3.6% of the electoral vote while claiming that up to 20% of the population are Maori. Why do you insist on loading baggage onto people because of race? Why do you believe calling someone a victim and stereotyping them is for anyone's benefit more particularly theirs? The irony is that the ideology you advocate for isn't even original - its imported. So it's you who deserve sympathy Lorna. I hope one day you are able to open your mind to consider perspective of others rather than simply dismissing them.

Not to mention that it is not financially sound- https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/09/13/treasury-advised-against-budget-charter-school-funding/?fbclid=IwY2xjawFQSUxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHezM6LK-oHiwTagZ4WvrpwHMQDuCI6Hsnh7Ei84OPyVmQVlcOtb0JRR9Fw_aem_GKxa9uG_TUiNsaCSH6WAbA

Primitive? What a projection through your absolute waffle of ignorance
