The difference between this report and the many other reviews conducted over the last 25 years is that it has the heart and it has the voice from those with lived experience in navigating the learning support space. It represents students, whānau, kaiako, kaiāwhina, tumuaki, rural and urban kura, kura kaupapa, learning support coordinators, language specialists, resource teachers, psychologists, advisors, advocates, and those passionate about our mokopuna and the diverse needs they have as they navigate school.
Here is a recording from the launch.
The report got picked up by a number of media outlets, RNZ Learning Support in schools "at breaking point" : report and Newsroom Education sector holding breath for big learning support boost.
The feedback we are receiving from the sector is 'thank you' - that these stories have been shared and that the report represents the true reality facing so many right now.
More work is going to need to be done to bring about the size of the change we need in learning support. We hope that this report puts us on that path.
